Common quiet signs
- Jumping to lower surfaces or stopping altogether
- A hunched posture or tense face
- Less grooming, or over-grooming one area
- Hiding, reduced contact or irritability
- Changes in appetite or litter-box habits
Observe patterns
One unusual day may not mean much. A pattern over several days, especially multiple changes together, deserves a veterinary assessment. Video of movement at home can be useful for your veterinarian.
Pain can often be helped
Medication, easier access to food and litter, ramps, warmth and treatment of the underlying illness can make a meaningful difference. Do not give human painkillers to a cat.
